Scio decided to donate 100 thousand crowns to support children from socially disadvantaged families by providing them with Internet connection until the end of the school year in cooperation with mobile operator Vodafone. Scio looked for students, who received a modem and paid internet connection, through a public call on the internet. The legitimacy of each application was verified in cooperation with the student’s school. In the end, almost 40 students were connected to the internet, which meant they did not have to worry about losing direct connection to their school in a year marked by coronavirus and distance learning. "Although about ten thousand students remained outside the education system due to the pandemic according to the Ministry of Education, we’re glad we were able help reduce this number in at least a small part, and we’re equally pleased that many other entities decided to help too," said Eliška Hloupá Sovová from Scio, who is responsible for projects for schools. Because the whole 100 thousand crowns was not spent, and this amount was increased by more than 20 thousand from voluntary donors, Scio sent the remaining amount to Moravia to help people affected by the tornado.
Here are some reactions from school representatives and social workers, whose students or clients received a modem and regular payment of their internet connection:
